夏
1、(会意。据小篆字形,从页,从臼,从攵。页(xié),人头。臼(jù),两手,攵(suī),两足。合起来象人形。本义:古代汉民族自称)。
2、同本义。也称华夏、诸夏。
夏,中国之人也。---《说文》。朱骏声曰:“就全地言之,中国在西北一小隅。故陈公子少西字夏,郑公孙夏字西。”
3、泛指中国。
蛮夷猾夏。---《书·舜典》。孔传:“夏,华夏。”
春秋内其国而外诸夏。---《公羊传·成公十五年》。注:“诸夏外土诸侯也。谓之夏者,大总下上言之辞也。”
